Guerrilla Infrastructure

Jason Eppink and Posterchild installed an excellent footbridge, built of found materials, over some pretty nasty sludge in Astoria, Queens.  The bridge has attracted the commendation of New York City Council Member Peter F. Vallone, Jr., who is working to reroute the “scum river,” among other repairs to Amtrak’s Hell’s Gate Bridge.   Too bad not all urban problems have elegant, citizen-initiated solutions like this… (anyone up for some guerrilla bike-lane striping?)

Astoria Scum River Bridge

I may or may not have learned about this from a comic strip.
