Bike Ride: Wilson Bridge Crossing

22.14 miles; 75 minutes; 17.71 mph; mostly flat terrain

[map]

Observations / Lessons Learned:

  • Tight bike shorts might feel funky at first, but ones that are too big will rub uncomfortably, even after a relatively short ride.  Get smaller bike shorts.
  • The helmet-mounted rear view mirror gives me a headache.  Rather than making me safer, I feel more paranoid and look over my shoulder more than is healthy.  That sucker’s going back.
  • BUGS!  I can only hope that California (at least the dry part) has fewer flying bugs than the swamp that is Alexandria, but just in case I’m going to get the sunglasses with interchangeable lenses.  It got to be dusk and I could see while wearing my sunglasses, but I also could hardly see because of all the bugs in my eyes.  It felt like someone was throwing rice in my face for most of the ride.
  • The sound barrier on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge crossing works really well in the Alexandria part.  I could even hear birds chirping in the trees below.
  • Pictures coming soon…
